The annual pilgrimage is held every year on the last Saturday of April at the northwest corner of the former camp site, near the cemetery monument.

The Manzanar National Historic site is approximately 210  miles north of Los Angeles, along Highway 395 and takes approximately 4 1/2 hours driving time.

Manzanar is located between Lone Pine and Independence.  It is on the west side of Highway 395,  approximately 9 miles north of Lone Pine on your left.

Tune your radio to AM 1610 as you near Manzanar National Historic Site. Listen to current information about Interpretive Center hours, special events, and other timely information.


Wear comfortable walking shoes, layers of clothing for weather changes. Bring sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses. Dust and high winds are possible. The altitude is 3,500-4,000 feet above sea level. Sanitized toilets will be on site. Water will be available during the pilgrimage. Pack a lunch, as there is no food service at the site. Restaurants are available in Lone Pine, Independence, and Bishop.

The general fee will be $40.

Students - $25

Formerly incarcerated - FREE

We encourage you to bring a container for water. We will provide a limited number of bottles but will refill your bottle at the site.

Optional Obento - $12, Vegetarian or Chicken

The buses will leave Manzanar at 4 pm.
