This was a spontaneous poem, passed around and written by attendees at the 2001 Manzanar After Dark (MAD-ness) program. Facilitated by students from City College of San Francisco. PLEASE WRITE A WORD OR A LINE ABOUT TODAY'S PILGRIMAGE... OR ANY WORD THAT CONNECTS YOU TO MANZANAR.
Keep it Going
A BRIGHT HOT DAY IN MANZANAR, PLACE OF INCARCERATION
A far and desolate place, filled with memories,
and spirits and strength and hope.
FATHER'S INTERNMENT
HIS RIGHTS UNJUSTLY DENIED
FINALLY REDRESS
GOOD WEATHER, GREAT CROWD, MEANINGFUL INTERACTIONS.
a place, a memory, a life never to be forgotten
I was in Manzanar - hope the story continues
Passing on my gradmother's legacy
MANZANAR! TALK TO ME...
"FREEDOM is a Constant Struggle!"
Mountains cut through the sierras as the raven glides
Beauty still stands where sadness once lived.
A place, time & history to always remember
desecration of the liberty and freedom of a people!
the desecration of the innocence and beauty of such a peaceful and beautiful land
by forcing such a tragic event in its land.
Today, I heard the music of my people...
Internal fire that rises from within.
Burning the soul, yet, setting the spirit free...
"FIGHT THE POWER"
SILENCE - intellectual became dead; anger alive "don't talk about it"
We should all be understanding in a multicultural level. It is VERY important for everyone to learn about the struggles that other cultures have went through. learning about other cultures will open up the minds of many people.
NO MORE MANZANARS!!!
Big mistake in U.S. history...
...pass it on and keep it going.
