Bus Chartered for Manzanar Pilgrimage
to Leave from Little Tokyo

LOS ANGELES, CA – The Manzanar Committee announced that a 50 passenger air-conditioned bus has been chartered for the April 30, 2005, Manzanar Pilgrimage for members of the general public who do not have their own transportation.

The bus will depart from 244 South San Pedro Street, in front of the Japanese American Community and Cultural Center at 6:30 a.m. All passengers are expected to be at the departure point by 6:15 a.m.

Participants must bring their own lunch, drink and snacks as there are no facilities to purchase food at Manzanar National Historic Site. The bus will have restroom accommodations and water will be provided at the site.

To reserve a seat, a pre-paid, non-refundable fee of $25.00, made payable to the Manzanar Committee, must be mailed to 13733 Rayen Street, Arleta, CA 91331-6143, between April 1 through April 22, 2005. No phone or early reservations will be accepted.

Confirmation letters will be mailed to individuals whose checks are received before the deadline.

The Manzanar Committee is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, all-volunteer organization that depends on community support to hold its yearly pilgrimages to the Manzanar National Historic Site, where approximately 10,000 persons of Japanese ancestry were held without due process during WWII. The theme for this year’s program, co-sponsored by the Manzanar 9/11 Committee, is “Retrospection and Relevance: Commemorating the First Manzanar Pilgrimage and its Meaning for Today.”
