Huell Howser to Attend Pilgrimage

The Manzanar Committee was informed by Huell Howser, Producer of “California’s Gold” on KCET-PBS that he will be attending the Manzanar Pilgrimage on April 24, 2004. His camera will focus on Mary Kageyama Nomura, the “Songbird of Manzanar”. Mary will be taped singing on the renovated stage in the historic auditorium where she sang more than 60 years ago. Howser also hopes to interview former internees for the feature, which will be part of “California’s Gold” series produced by Huell Howser Productions.

Manzanar National Historic Site is located 200 miles north of Los Angeles, on Highway 395. It is under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service. The Visitor's Center and Park Headquarters will be open on the Pilgrimage date with a Grand Opening Ceremony at 1:30 p.m.
