Bus Chartered for Day Trip to Manzanar Pilgrimage April 26, 2003

Los Angeles – A 55-passenger bus has been chartered by the Manzanar Committee for Southern CA residents wishing to participate in the 34th annual Pilgrimage to Manzanar, it was reported this week by the Manzanar Committee.

The bus will leave from 244 south San Pedro Street in Little Tokyo (in front of the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center) Saturday morning, April 26th, promptly at 7:00 a.m. A prepaid, non-refundable fee of $20.00 per person must be paid by Saturday, April 19th. Checks payable to the Manzanar Committee, are to be mailed to P. O. Box 9489, Marina del Rey, CA 90295.

No reservations will be taken over the telephone. Passengers are to bring their own lunches, snacks and drinks for the bus trip. " Wear comfortable walking shoes", the Committee advised as the ground is uneven. Sunglasses, a hat or umbrella are recommended, as there is little shade on the site.

For those wishing to drive on their own, the Manzanar Committee has an updated travel Map they will send out. Call (323) 662-5102 for further information or click on www.manzanarcommittee.org for the latest update.

Manzanar National Historic Site is located 200 miles north of Los Angeles on Highway 395. The program will begin at noon at the cemetery area, at the northwest corner of the former World war II internment camp for Japanese Americans.
