Bus to Manzanar Pilgrimage Filling Up

Los Angeles - A few seats are available on the chartered bus transporting Los Angeles residents to the 33rd annual Pilgrimage to Manzanar National Historic Site, the Manzanar Committee reported today. A non-refundable, prepaid fee of $20.00 will reserve a place. Make check payable to the Manzanar Committee and mail to P.O. Box 9489, Marina del Rey, CA 90295, before April 22, 2002. No phone reservations will be accepted.

The Sponsoring organization, the Manzarar committee released the following instructions to bus passengers and others attending the pilgrimage scheduled fofr April 27, 2002:

1. Bring lunch and snacks for the trip as there are no facilities close by to purchase food. Some drinking water will be provided.
2. Wear comfortable walking shoes and clothing in layers so they can be added or removed according to the weather. Bring sunglasses, a hat and sunblock as there is very little shade at the site.
3. For bus passengers, the bus will depart promptly at 7:00 am from in front of the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center, 244 South San Pedro Street, in Little Tokyo. The Committee recommends that passengers, arrive by 6:45 a.m. It will return to Los Angeles by 7:00 p.m.

Manzanar is located 200 miles north of Los Angeles on Highway 395. It was established as a National Historic Site by Congress on February 19, 1992 and is under the Jurisdiction of the National Park Service.
